Crime Scene Baroque: Unsolved Mysteries in the Concert Hall
Welcome to an extraordinary concert that reveals the dark and mysterious facets of the musical world of the 17th and 18th centuries. Join us on a fascinating journey through the shadowy sides of music history as we explore true criminal cases that shaped the fate of some of the most significant composers of this era.
Our journey begins in the picturesque Venice of 1713, where the poet Bartolomeo Dotti tragically loses his life. A remarkable fact emerges days after Dotti’s murder. A newspaper article appears, written by an anonymous figure, commenting on Dotti’s fate: “You have sullied Scarlatti’s arias and received your just reward for it.”
Alessandro Scarlatti is under suspicion, Georg Friedrich Handel and Johann Mattheson nearly commit murder, and Paris, as well as Genoa, become the scenes of inexplicable crimes. But who actually killed whom and why? Together, we embark on a forensic odyssey to try to solve the criminal cases of Baroque music. It won’t be an easy task…
