Les doux reflets de Versailles
At the French court, not only were celebrations held, but true masterpieces of entertainment were created. The eyes of the world almost enviously turned toward the banquets and balls hosted by the Sun King. However, it was not just the festive atmosphere that made the French court in Versailles so unparalleled. It was the legendary Hall of Mirrors, “la galerie des glaces,” which became the hallmark of Paris. Not only dancers and musicians were reflected in its mirrors; its brilliance extended far beyond the borders of Versailles, significantly influencing courts and ballrooms throughout Europe.
In this sea of gentle reflections, the “doux reflets,” we want to lose ourselves and explore their musical influence. Europe dances, and we are right in the midst of it. Every step, every leap, even every note is executed with an unparalleled elegance and grace.
Works by Handel, Fox, Marais, and others will be performed.
